My midlife meant a divorce, large household financial change, and trying to be all I needed to be to my family, friends, and business. I’m also on the perimenopause ride with you and what a trip it is!

As a certified sleep and stress management coach I started Good Night Sleep Site as a leading sleep resource, and program and support system. I am a mother of three wonderful teens (1 + twins!) and at 45 I went through a very hard divorce, all while still living with my ex for 1.5 years. Not something I recommend but unfortunately something very common throughout the divorce process! My sleep was non-existent and my stress levels were through the roof. I was on the fast track to burnout. On top of that I was so foggy and distracted with my dumpster-fire of a life I wasn’t aware that I was also going through perimenopause. But alas, the symptoms were there and at the time I’m writing this I’m 47 and yup – perimenopause has arrived!

I needed to make some serious changes and after speaking to so many clients, friends, and midlife women I could recognize I wasn’t alone in my struggles. Not necessarily my divorce struggles, but we were all going through it, and midlife was kicking our ass. Through my training, years of education, and my own life experience, I had a great sleep foundation and a stress management toolbox of resources and education to create The Messy Middle Sleep Solution. Why is this sleep program different?

While sleep hygiene is an important component to your healthy sleep plan, if you have been struggling with sleep for a long time, especially if you are experiencing midlife struggles, changing your bedtime and buying new sheets probably isn’t the only answer to help you sleep better.

Women’s stress levels during midlife are at an ultimate high for numerous reasons. Higher than usual stress levels, means cortisol levels, our stress hormone, are also higher than usual when you go to sleep. This suppresses melatonin, our sleep hormone, and that can make your sleep lighter and more easily disturbed. When we create a workout plan, or nutritional plan, we know we’re not going to see results in just one day. You can’t spend one hour at the gym and eat one healthy meal and see the results you want.
